Where can I find Healthy Main Streets?

Participating districts:

East Boston Main Streets

This summer, Healthy Main Streets is focusing on educating the public about where to find farmers markets, local grocers, produce stands, organic produce vendors, fish markets, and restaurants that offer fresh and healthy options in local districts.  Lace up your sneakers and join us for one of six guided walking tours this summer during which we’ll highlight the various ways residents can stay healthy in your local Main Streets district.

Mission Hill Main Street - Thursday, July 9th   4:30 p.m.
Meet at: Sheehy Park, 1545 Tremont Street

East Boston Main Streets - Thursday, July 16th  5:00 p.m.
Meet at: East Boston YMCA, 215 Bremen Street

St. Mark’s Area Main Street - Friday, July 17th 5:30 p.m.
Meet at: ODWIN Learning Center, 1943 Dorchester Avenue

JP Centre/South - Saturday, July 25th 10:00 a.m.
Meet at: Bank of America parking lot, 677 Centre Street

Join us for a health and history walking tour of the J.P. Centre/South Main Streets district. Explore healthy eating, shopping, and outdoor fitness options in the J.P. Centre/South area while learning about the rich history of the district. The first 50 participants will receive a gift bag filled with prizes such as: JP Walks! Walking Guide & Map - Walking Pedometer - Reusable Water Bottle, Info on Local Farmer's markets - Recipes -Mike's Gym Passes - Cliff Bars - Equal Exchange Chocolate - Discounts at shops and restaurants like Centre Street Café. A special "Green Home" basket and a "Relax, Rejuvenate, & Renew" spa basket will be raffled at the end of the walk.

The walk will be split up into 2 parts to accommodate all walking levels, with water stops along the way. City Feed & Supply will offer samples of Cabot Cheese (low fat, of course!) and other local products. The walk will end at the Bank of America parking lot in time for the JP Farmers Market, where walkers can shop for fresh, locally grown produce from Stillman's Farm, and see a beekeeping demonstration with live bees (contained, of course!).

Washington Gateway Main Street – Saturday, August 15th 2:00 p.m.
Meet at: Franklin Square

Chinatown Main Street - Sunday, August 16th 2:00 p.m.
Meet at: 61 Harrison Avenue

Participants will receive a Boston Summer Fitness Gift Bag filled with fun freebies, healthy recipes, and physical fitness tips, discounts to local restaurants such as The Savant Project in Mission Hill and the Dot 2 Dot Cafe in Dorchester. Also take advantage of offers to try out new activities at places like Charles River Canoe & Kayak!
