Litigation Division

The City of Boston Litigation Division is accomplished and experienced in representing the City and City employees in a myriad of civil matters before state and federal courts as well as various administrative bodies. The litigation is as broad and varied as the activities of City government itself and encompasses both affirmative and defensive claims, including the following disputes: employment, personal injury and other torts, road defects, medical malpractice, civil rights, environmental/land use, election law, disability, and contracts. The Division also oversees a diversity of litigation handled by specially-assigned outside counsel and serves as a day-to-day liaison with the Legal Advisor of the Boston Police Department. At its core, the Division is comprised of skilled attorneys who handle all aspects of litigation, from the complaint stage through trial or other final disposition, such as settlement, mediation or alternative dispute resolution. Attorneys within the Division aggressively and effectively represent their clients by combining their experience and skills with the highest standards of ethics and excellence resulting in high quality work and positive case dispositions. The Division has a proven record of not only obtaining favorable recoveries on behalf of its clients, but also vigorously litigating unmeritorious claims and successfully minimizing liabilities.
