Government Services

The Government Services Program provides general legal consultation to all City departments, including the Boston Public Schools. The program also provides legal assistance regarding the development and implementation of new public policies and programs. An example of the Department's role in new public policy is the growing telecommunications practice, which includes monitoring and analyzing this rapidly developing practice area. Activities include acting as a liaison with the Federal Communications Commission, the review of telecommunications contracts, many involving multiple parties, drafting telecommunications license agreements and advisory opinions on a variety of telecommunication issues. Litigation services include zoning appeals, admiralty cases, contract disputes and construction claims. Government Services also provides consultation services that include rendering legal opinions, drafting and approving legal instruments such as contracts, agreements, licensing and indemnity agreements, zoning issues, public record requests and subpoena responses.
