The Mayor's Office of Jobs & Community Services
It is our purpose as an innovative public agency to promote economic self-sufficiency to ensure the full participation of all Boston residents in the city's economic vitality and future. It is also our purpose to be an advocate, clearinghouse, and laboratory for "best practices" in literacy, beginning at birth; lifelong learning; job training/placement; and support services so Bostonians may fulfill their educational and employment aspirations.

Mayor Menino’s Recovery Plan: Workforce Development
Boston received $2.54 million in ARRA funding for the City's summer jobs program and an additional $1.86 million for job training for disadvantaged and dislocated adults. JCS will be developing a written plan to outline how ARRA funds will be used. On March 23, 2009 a public hearing was held at the Boston Public Library seeking comments on the workforce development components of the ARRA Bill.
