Obtaining a Building Permit
How Much does the Permit Cost?
Building Permit fees are based on the estimated cost of construction, including all labor and materials. It is important that the estimate be as accurate as possible. The Department will review these costs at the time of application, during construction, and before the occupancy permit is issued.
If there is a difference between the estimated cost and the actual cost, the builder or owner should, before applying for the Certificate of Occupancy, amend the application to increase the cost and pay the additional fee.
Should the department determine that the actual cost exceeds the estimate on the permit, and the applicant has made no effort to adjust the difference, the applicant will be required to pay a double fee prior to issuance of the Certificate of Occupancy based on the actual cost of construction.
