From the Ground Up - A Contractor's Guide
Committee to Legalize Occupancy
- WHEN THIS IS USED
- When building/structure does not have a legal occupancy on record. Counter 1 at ISD may provide the application with information on legal occupancies.
- WHAT IS THE PROCESS
- The applicant will complete a long form application describing the work to be completed.
- The staff gathers information on the structure (building history, tax assessment information etc)
- ISD forwards the information to the occupancy committee.
- The occupancy committee reviews the information.
- OCCUPANCY COMMITTEE APPROVES
- If the occupancy committee approves the permit for zoning purposes, it is then reviewed by the plan examiners to ensure compliance with the building code.
- Upon notification, the applicant will return to ISD, pay the appropriate fee, and the permit will be issued.
- OCCUPANCY COMMITTEE DOES NOT APPROVE
- The applicant may proceed to the Board of Appeals
