Boston Urban Mechanics interns will have the opportunity to not only gain valuable professional experience in municipal government but to provide useful contributions that will help the City to deliver a high level of service to neighborhoods and residents.
BUMP - Policy Institute
The Boston Urban Mechanics Program - Policy Institute is an eight week internship for graduate students in the City of Boston interested in working in public service. Interns will work in a cohort, generating and implementing creative and thoughtful new policies to benefit the City of Boston.
In addition to generating ideas, interns will learn about the mission and work of City departments through weekly presentation and panels by cabinet chiefs, department heads and senior staff, as well as guided tours of City facilities and landmarks.

City of Boston Internships
The City of Boston offers students enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in a Boston area University/College the opportunity to participate in an internship in the area of public service. Internships with the City of Boston are developed to be rigorous learning experiences that enrich City departments with creativity and imagination, while gaining exposure to public service.

BUMP - Fellowships
Up to four year-long Fellowships are offered annually in the following areas: Technology, Public Health, Public Safety, and Performance Management. Applicants are recent graduate degree recipients with a strong interest in Public Service. As a result of the financial challenges in the upcoming fiscal year, that the City of Boston has suspended the Fellowship program for 2009-2010, we hope to reinstate the program in the future.
