Special Hazards

Welcome to the Special Hazards Section of the Fire Prevention Division of the Boston Fire Department. We are responsible for the issuing of permits for: vent-less fireplaces, oil burners, tank installations & removals, annual storage, temporary storage, emergency generators, gas stations, open air parking, transportation of hazardous material, and special events.

This unit is responsible for reviewing plans and the associated inspections that may be applicable to a particular permit.

The special events area includes permits for: special effects; in the theatre, movies, concerts, or private functions, tentage, cooking, temporary heat, and fuel storage for generators.

New Crowd Manager Regulations

According to 527 CMR 10.13 effective June 1, 2011 a trained crowd manager must be present in any Nightclub, Bar, Discotheque, or Dance Hall with an occupant load of 100 or more persons during all hours when the facility is open to patrons.
