Fire Commissioner/
Chief of Department:
Administrative head and Chief Executive Officer of the fire department.
  
Chief of Operations,
Field Operations:
Chief in charge of both fire divisions; the Safety Operations Unit; and the Epecial Operations Command (SOC).
  
Chief of Operations,
Support Operations:
Chief in charge of the Training, Maitenance, and Research Division; the Information Technology Division; the Special Projects  Division; and the Emergency Management Division.
  
Fire Marshal:Deputy Fire Chief in charge of the Fire Prevention Division.
  
Deputy Fire Chief:A fire chief in charge of a division.
  
District Fire Chief:A fire chief in charge of a district.
  
Safety Chief:District Fire Chief assigned to the Safety Operations Unit.
  
Fire Captain:The officer in overall charge of a company.
  
Fire Lieutenant:The officer in charge of a company, in the absence of a Fire Captain.
  
Senior Fire Fighter:Fire fighter designated to assume charge of a company in the absence of a company officer.
  
Fire Fighter:All uniformed personnel, of the fire fighting force, below the rank of Lieutenant.
  
Aide to Chief Officer:Fire fighter selected by a Chief to assist the Chief in his/her duties.
  
Fire Fighting Force:The uniformed personnel employed for the purpose of fire prevention, fire protection and fire extinguishment.
  
Division Headquarters:The quarters of the Deputy Fire Chief.
  
District Headquarters:The quarters of the District Fire Chief.
  

The ranks of Fire Lieutenant through Deputy Fire Chief are attained by way of a state administered Civil Service examination held every two years. Promotions are made when vacancies become available in the Table Of Organization during the two year period.
