Greenovate Residential Award Information

Are you or do you know of a resident in Boston that is an all-star Greenovator? If you know an avid cyclist, an energy conservationist or a recycling maverick, consider nominating them for a Greenovate Residential Award.

2013 Residential Award Categories

Leadership
This award will recognize a leader in community education and/or outreach on climate action and sustainability. It could go to a teacher, community leader, or any other individual who has made it his or her personal commitment to help others become Greenovators.

Energy
This category awards a resident who has made significant strides to reduce their home energy consumption and/or made a shift to renewable energy. Efforts could include energy efficiency improvements, installation of solar panels or other renewables, a commitment to purchase renewable and/or clean energy, or any other measures that reduce a home’s consumption of non-renewable energy. Where possible, please demonstrate energy savings numerically (for example, number of kilowatt hours saved from energy conservation measures).

Alternative Transportation
This award will be presented to a resident who has demonstrated his or her commitment to getting around the City in clean and green ways. Any and all efforts to reduce driving in a single-occupancy, low-mileage vehicle, from riding a bike, using transit, and driving a hybrid or electric vehicle, will be acknowledged by this award.

Eco-Friendly Gardens
Gardens always have a bit of green, but there are many steps a gardener can take to create a more sustainable garden or yard. Examples of sustainable gardening practices could include creating a rain garden, reducing or eliminated the need for irrigation, transforming a paved or other hard surface (such as a roof) to a green or permeable one, or using organic gardening methods.

Trailblazer
This award will go to a resident who has new, creative, or innovative way to reduce his or her environmental impact. Whether it is a new means of generating energy or getting to work, this award spans all other categories with an emphasis on innovation.

Note:Mayor Menino’s Bike Friendly Business awards recognize local companies taking steps to be more bike friendly. Learn more about the awards and nominate your business or organization.
