Environmental & Energy Services
The mission of the Environmental and Energy Services Cabinet is to preserve and enhance the resources of our built and natural environment and to promote affordable, efficient, reliable and safe energy systems for Boston residents. The Cabinet oversees the Inspectional Services Department, the Environment Department, and the Parks Department, serves as chair of the Mayor's Energy Management Board, and oversees programs and policies on green buildings, groundwater, the Harbor Islands, park planning, recycling, renewable energy, and certain transportation issues.

Climate Action Leadership Committee
The Boston Climate Action Leadership Committee, a 22 member group representing a broad spectrum of the community, is charged with charting Boston's collective response to climate change. The Committee's recommendations will announced in Spring 2010.

Boston has an extensive municipal recycling program available for residents and in public schools. It is easy to participate and free to use. Curbside recycling is available for 1 to 3 family units and also available for large apartment buildings. Recycling provides revenue to the city and is good for the environment.

Permeable Pavement RFP
The Office of Environmental and Energy Services through the Boston Environment Department is accepting proposals from interested and qualified parties for a community project to provide quantifiable data on the use of permeable pavement for the purpose of rainwater recharge in the Groundwater Conservation Overlay District (GCOD) as defined in Article 32 as amended of the Boston Zoning Code. The project must be located in the GCOD, be publicly visible and accessible, include interpretive signage, provide quantifiable, measurable data and analysis for modeling and provide matching funds. RFP documents may be obtained beginning February 8, 2010 at the Boston Environment Department, Boston City Hall Room 805, One City Hall Plaza, Boston, MA. Proposals will be accepted until 4:00 PM on March 12. Funding for this project was made possible by a grant from the Environmental Protection Agency.
