Environmental & Energy Services
The mission of the Environmental and Energy Services Cabinet is to preserve and enhance the resources of our built and natural environment and to promote affordable, efficient, reliable and safe energy systems for Boston residents. The Cabinet oversees the Inspectional Services Department, the Environment Department, and the Parks Department, serves as chair of the Mayor's Energy Management Board, and oversees programs and policies on green buildings, groundwater, the Harbor Islands, park planning, recycling, renewable energy, and certain transportation issues.
Climate Action Leadership Committee
The Boston Climate Action Leadership Committee, a 22 member group representing a broad spectrum of the community, is charged with charting Boston's collective response to climate change. The Committee's recommendations will announced in Spring 2010. More Info » |
LED's A Bright New Idea
As part of Mayor Menino's overall efforts to "green" Boston, the City has been exploring the use of LED lighting for public spaces, sidewalks and roadways through the installation of a demonstration project on Boston Common.More Information » |

Neighborhood Recycling Plan
Boston has an extensive municipal recycling program available for residents and in public schools. It is easy to participate and free to use.
