In July 2010, Asian Longhorn Beetles (ALB) were discovered in 6 trees at the Faulkner Hospital in Jamaica Plain.  The affected trees have been removed and chipped, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Massachusetts Department of Recreation and Conservation have since surveyed over 30,000 trees in the affected area. No additional beetles have been found.

Update on Yard Waste Collection in ALB Regulated Area
Leaf and yard waste collected in the Asian Longhorn Beetle (ALB) regulated area can be placed curbside on your trash collection day, where it will be appropriately disposed of in accordance with the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and MA Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) ALB Eradication Program Guidelines. Please place yard waste on the curb by 7AM on your scheduled trash/recycling day. Tie branches with string, 3' maximum length and no wider than 1 inch. Do not put branches in barrels.

Report a Possible ALB Sighting
Tree inspectors from the USDA and DCR will continue with surveys on both public and private property in the Regulated Area to look for signs of ALB. We need you to keep an eye out for possible infestations. Visit the USDA's Beetle Busters for information on how to identify ALB.
