Urban Wilds

Urban Wilds are properties within Boston that are maintained in their natural condition and consist primarily of intact woodlands and wetlands.  The Conservation Commission holds title to approximately 22 urban wilds which are found in most every neighborhood and range in size from a tenth of acre to 10 acres.  Urban Wilds serve many important functions such as wildlife habitat, storm water storage and relief from urban-heat-island effect.  These properties also improve neighborhood aesthetics and provide opportunities for passive recreation.  For a listing of the City’s Urban Wilds and information on the Parks Department’s Urban Wild Initiative please visit the Parks website:
