The Mayor's Advisory Council
The Advisory Council's mission is to assist the Commission on Affairs of the Elderly Area Agency on Aging (AAA) in developing and coordinating community-based systems of services for all seniors in Boston. The Advisory Council acts as a conduit between the AAA and the community by relaying important information to the seniors in the neighborhoods and bringing neighborhood concerns back to the AAA.
Federal regulation of the Older Americans Act of 1965, gives authority to the Advisory Council to:
- Advise the AAA on the preparation, development and implementation of the City of Boston's Area Plan.
- Advocate on behalf of Boston's seniors.
- Recommend priority services and program changes, and suggest ways to increase coordination of existing services and plans for anticipated services.
Meetings are held on the first Friday of every month, except July and August. In case of a holiday, the meeting is moved to the following Friday. Meetings are held in Boston City Hall, Room 801 on the eighth floor, from 10 to 12 noon. Everyone is welcome to attend. Call (617) 635-3979 for information.
