Women on Main Initiative
Women on Main is a new initiative created by Mayor Menino in 2013. It seeks to better connect Boston’s women-owned Main Streets businesses to one another and to the City.
The Women on Main Initiative will sponsor expert educational programming, round table discussions and networking events to help Boston’s women business owners flourish, and help the City of Boston better address their unique needs and challenges.
This site provides resources for women entrepreneurs, including links to education and funding options.
In addition to the many banks and credit unions operating in Boston, the Office of Business Development has some funding resources available. Boston also benefits from numerous organizations that offer guidance and financial support to small businesses.
City of Boston, Office of Business Development
The City’s own Office of Business Development provides entrepreneurs and existing businesses with access to financial and technical resources.
Provides affordable small business loans and financial education to low to moderate income microentrepreneurs. ACCION specializes in working with small businesses who cannot borrow from a bank due to business type, a short length of time in business or an insufficient credit history.
The Capital Network
A non-profit organization that provides extensive financial education to early-stage entrepreneurs in Boston. They strive to help entrepreneurs master the entire funding process to successfully raise seed capital for high-growth startups.
An angel investment organization that invests in high-growth women-led businesses across all industry sectors.
A for-profit merchant bank that provides financing and business advisory services to medium sized companies and nonprofit organizations located in urban markets.
US Small Business Administration
The SBA provides a variety of loans, including microloans, real estate and equipment, disaster and general small business loans.

Center for Women & Enterprise
A nonprofit organization dedicated to helping women start and grow their own businesses. CWE’s mission is to empower women to become economically self-sufficient and to prosper through business and entrepreneurship.
The Commonwealth Institute
A nonprofit organization founded to help women-led businesses become and stay successful.
The nation’s largest volunteer business counseling service dedicated to help those in business, about to start one, or just thinking about it. SCORE is a nonprofit and resource partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration.
