The Boston Home Center offers information on a range of programs and services available in Boston such as:
- Information and registration for homebuyer education classes and counseling provided in the City of Boston.
- Information on credit counseling and repair.
- Information on and referral to the various loan/grant programs offered to purchase or repair a home.
- Applications for various properties being marketed by the City to income-eligible, first-time homebuyers.
- Information on a variety of local lenders and their specialty mortgage programs.
- General education pamphlets on technical and financial issues surrounding the purchase or repair of a home.
- Information on and referral to foreclosure prevention services.

- Information on predatory mortgage lending practices.
Home Purchase Programs
Education
Homebuying 101 is an 8-hour course which will teach you the ins and outs of the home buying process. Graduates receive a Boston Home Certificate which eligible buyers can redeem for closing cost and/or downpayment financial assistance from the City of Boston. To register, call 617-635-4663.
Homebuying 102: Purchasing a Condominium is a two-hour class intended for those who have completed Homebuying 101. It covers topics including understanding condominiums, finding the one thats right for you, and financing the purchase of a condominium. To register, call 617-635-4663.
Mortgages
The Boston Soft Second Mortgage Program offers low- and moderate-income buyers a discounted mortgage rate with no points, reduced closing costs and no mortgage insurance fees.
Grants
The Boston Home Certificate Initiative provides low, moderate and middle-income home buyers downpayment and closing cost financial assistance. Down payment assistance of up to 3% are available on many of the mortgages listed. Homebuyers can access an additional $300 discount off closing costs through participating mortgage lenders.
Financial and technical assistance is available to first-time homebuyers of certain City-owned property through the Residential Development Program (RDP). To be placed on the RDP mailing list, please call 617-635-0381.

The 1st Home Program provides a great opportunity for first-time homebuyers to purchase a new or rehabilitated home in Boston at an affordable price.
Homeownership Programs
Education
Don't Borrow Trouble is a campaign to educate homeowners about the risks of refinance and home equity mortgages. Homeowners facing difficulties paying their mortgage can access counseling services.
Homeowner 201 is a 3-session course, which teaches homeowners about landlord, property maintenance, and financial issues. Call 617-265-8995 to register.
