Boston Home Center University – Want to learn more about our programs and services? The Boston Home Center University events, run three times a year, offer a variety of courses on homebuying and homeowning topics. These include the features, benefits, eligibility requirements and application process for our financial assistance programs for both homebuyers and homeowners. Applications will be available.
Housing EXPOs – Housing EXPOs are held annually in various Boston neighborhoods. Attendees learn about programs and services from the Boston Home Center and our community partners. They can also attend seminars on a variety of homebuying and homeowning topics.
CreditSmart® – An six-hour course to learn everything you need to know about establishing and maintaining a record of good credit, and how to avoid credit traps.
Meet the Lenders – A two-hour networking opportunity to meet with several different mortgage lenders to understand their products and your purchase and refinance options.
BHC Boot Camp – BHC Boot Camp was created to help HB101 graduates cross the finish line and become first-time homebuyers. BHC Boot Campers must commit to participation in three workshops over a three-month period.
Budgeting for a Better Life - This one-hour workshop explore the importance of using a budget. Learn how to create a budget and techniques for following and sticking to it to accomplish goals. We will also discuss creating your own cash flow statement, and determining the importance of an emergency fund, and establishing and saving for short/long term goals.
10 Steps to Digging Out of Debt - This one-hour workshop helps individuals understand their total debt picture and how to develop an action plan for digging out. In learning these 10 simple steps, you will gain confidence – regardless the debt situation you might be facing.
Homebuying Overview - This one-hour workshop provides a broad overview of the homebuying process and explores the pluses and minuses of owning a home. This class will teach participants how to calculate how much they can realistically spend on a home, understand how a lender looks at prospective borrowers and determines how much they might lend and at what rate.
Improving Your Credit Score - In this one-hour workshop learn about the importance of credit scores, what impacts your credit score and what actions you can take to raise it.
Using the Internet for Your Home Search - This workshop will help you use the internet to establish search criteria, work with real estate professionals, and organize your home search.
Structuring Your Finances for Homeownership - This two-hour workshop will teach you how to review your credit report, optimize your debt:credit ratio, and organize your financial documents to prepare for applications to financial assistance programs and lenders.
