The Boston Home Center offers a variety of classes, workshops and financial assistance programs to help you buy your first home in Boston. The BHC also oversees the marketing of many exciting homebuyer opportunities throughout the City. 

 

Affordable Homes for Sale

Affordable Housing page - See a list of all affordable homeownership opportunities available through DND.

1st Home - Find out about affordable homes now being marketed to first-time homebuyers through the 1st Home program.

Cash-to-Fix SALES – A program that allows eligible homebuyers to purchase a City-acquired foreclosed home at an affordable price for which they can also receive financial and technical rehab assistance from the Boston Home Center to cover needed renovations before they move in.

 

Homebuying Education

Credit Smart - A free four-session course to learn everything you to know about credit!

Don't Borrow Trouble - An educational campaign designed to help consumers avoid lending scams.

Financial Assistance Workshop – A one-stop shopping class in which you will learn about all of the financial assistance resources available to homebuyers through the Boston Home Center.

Homebuying 101 - A free eight-hour course designed for any first-time homebuyer. Includes information about the mortgage process, managing debt, shopping for a home, and legal issues around homebuying.

Homebuying 102: Purchasing a Condo - A free, two-hour class (must have already completed Homebuying 101) that provides information on shopping for, and financing, a condominium.

How to Buy a Home that Needs Work - A free two-hour seminar to learn about mortgages and other resources available to help you fix up you home.  

Living Within Your Means - A free two-hour seminar to help you evaluate your current financial situation and learn how to adjust your finances to accommodate your situation

Purchasing Foreclosed Property - A free seminar to learn everything there is to know about the process: finding the right foreclosed property for you and understanding the sales process involved, important legal issues, choosing the right mortgage, and home repair resources.  

 

Financial Assistance


Cash-to-Close - A program designed to help eligible first-time homebuyers receive between $1,000 and up to 3% of their total purchase price towards downpayment and closing costs.

Cash-to-Close LIMITED – A program designed to offer qualified homebuyers of foreclosed properties up to $25,000 in financial assistance.

Cash-to-Fix – A program that provides rehab funding of up to $50,000 to eligible homebuyers for assistance with needed repairs of 1- to 3-family foreclosed homes and 1- to 6-family foreclosed condominium properties.

Cash-to-Fix SALES – A program that allows eligible homebuyers to purchase a City-acquired foreclosed home at an affordable price for which they can also receive financial and technical rehab assistance from the Boston Home Center to cover needed renovations before they move in.

Meet the Lenders - A free workshop at which you will meet ten different mortgage lenders and learn about their special mortgage programs.

Soft Second Mortgage - A program designed to teach you how to save up to $30,000 over the life of your mortgage for a condominium, or a one, two, or three-family home.
