Commercial Space for Lease Finder FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to post my lease information?
There is no cost for this service. The Department of Neighborhood Development's
mission is making Boston a better place to live. We believe that thriving, fully
occupied commercial districts are healthy for their adjacent neighborhoods.
What if I cannot negotiate favorable terms?
We want to be very clear that the only service that the City of Boston is offering
is maintaining this electronic bulletin board. The City of Boston will have
absolutely no role in your negotiations. Please see the Disclaimer at the bottom
of each page on this website.
How long will my listing be posted?
We will post your listing for 60 days after you submit it. At that time, you
should resubmit the listing if the property is not yet rented.
What if I have more than one property to list?
You can list as many properties located in Boston that you want. However, you
need to complete one input form (found on this website) for each property you
list.
What if I own a commercial property in Boston even though I am not a resident
of Boston?
That's OK. We will still list it as long as the property being listed is in
Boston.
What is the meaning of the term, $/s.f. (dollars per square foot)? Because properties come in different sizes at different prices, the measurement "$/sf" is used in real estate to provide a basis for comparison. The dollar amount represents the annual cost of one square foot of leased property. For example, if you leased one square foot of space at $10/sf, that one foot would cost $10 a year. Of course, no one could make much use of one square foot. A better example is a 1,000 sf location at $10/sf. Here, the annual cost is $10,000 [$10 times 1,000 sf]. If you want to calculate your monthly rent payment, you take the annual result, here $10,000, and divide by 12 (months). The monthly rate payment is $833.33.
