Lewis Chemical Property
On February 3, 2005, the City of Boston, Department of Neighborhood Development (DND) received a petition from thirteen petitioners requesting that the Former Lewis Chemical Corporation disposal site be designated a Public Involvement Plan (PIP) site, pursuant to the Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP). On February 18, 2005, DND designated the Former Lewis Chemical Corporation disposal site a PIP site. DND and our environmental consultant, Environmental Strategies and Management, Inc. (ES&M), interviewed PIP petitioners, municipal officials and representatives of local organizations to initiate dialogue and identify community concerns in order to prepare a Draft Public Involvement Plan (Draft PIP). The purpose of the Public Involvement Plan is to ensure that the public is both informed of and involved in remedial response actions at the disposal site. The Draft PIP was formally presented to the public on Tuesday, April 5, 2005 at 6:30 PM at the Hyde Park Municipal Building.
In accordance with the Draft Public Involvement Plan, DND placed copies of the Draft PIP on this website as well as at a local repository at the Hyde Park branch of the Boston Public Library for public comment. In addition, DND placed the following other Draft MCP documents associated with the Lewis site on this website and at the local repository; the Phase I – Site Investigation Report Addendum, the Numerical Ranking System Scoresheet, the Tier I Permit Application, and the Phase II Comprehensive Site Assessment Scope of Work.
The public comment period for the Draft PIP and the other Draft MCP documents ended at 5 PM on April 25, 2005. The Final PIP Plan and MCP documents, public comments, and responses are provided below.
