Solar Boston
Increasing solar energy in Boston to 25 MW by 2015
In June 2007, the City of Boston became one of thirteen inaugural Solar America Cities under the Solar America Initiative of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) - Develop a strategy for the installation of solar technology throughout Boston , including mapping feasible locations, preparing a project-labor agreement, and planning the city-wide bulk purchase, financing, and installation of solar technology
- Work with local organizations to maximize Boston 's participation in state incentive programs and innovative financing initiatives
- Create a successor non-profit organization to implement the long-term goals of the partnership in cooperation with the Boston Energy Alliance
Solar Boston partners include DOE, the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative, local utilities and unions, an anonymous foundation, and a broad range of local, regional, and national clean energy stakeholders.

The Solar Boston map allows you to see active renewable energy installations within the City, and to calculate the solar potential of building rooftops. The map was created by the Boston Redevelopment Authority in cooperation with the Solar Boston program.View Map»

RETScreen Clean Energy Workshop
On June 3 & 4, 2008, Solar Boston and National Grid sponsored a training workshop on using the RETScreen Clean Energy Decision Analysis Software (www.retscreen.net). These training sessions included an introduction to solar water heating and the RETScreen solar water heating model, an overview of Massachusetts financial incentives for solar water heating, and case study-based problem solving assignments. Thinking BIG about Boston's Solar Energy Future
On January 10, 2008 , Solar Boston sponsored a workshop entitled, "Thinking BIG about Boston's Solar Energy Future" to discuss how state, utility, and municipal programs can work together. Presentations from the workshop are available below.
