Mobile Food Truck: GPS Systems

The Mayor's Office, Public Works, Transportation, Inspectional Services, and Fire departments have developed a single application process for procuring a Mobile Food Truck Permit.  In addition to the Mobile Food Truck Permit, Food Trucks must also secure permits from Inspectional Services, Boston Fire Department, and the State of Mass to ensure the safety and health of the Food Truck, vendors, and customers prior to operating in the City of Boston.

  • Vendor data sharing consent signature on application form

The City of Boston is leveraging their relationships with Trimble and Sprint to offer vendors a smooth process for purchasing, installing, and setting up their GPS devices.

GPS Device Instructions


The process for purchasing and installation of your GPS units is as follows:

  1. Fill out the appropriate paperwork for the number of tracking units that you will need (Equipment Contract Form). Please print your full name at the top of this form.

  2. Fill out the Credit Application providing all information and co-signer information (if necessary)

  3. Fill out the shipping/billing form

  4. Submit all pages of the equipment contract form, credit application, and shipping form to:

  5. Follow up with a subsequent confirmation email to make sure the paperwork has been received.

  6. Once the application is processed and your unit(s) has been provisioned, activated and tested it will be shipped to you. Please allow 10 to 14 days for delivery. Please DO NOT open this package!  The contents need to be kept intact and missing parts will only delay your installation and completion of this requirement.

  7. An installer will contact you with regards to the installation date/time.

  8. Logins and passwords will be provided via email for your account.

GPS Data Management

Sprint will provide data services for the GPS information.  Vendors must allow the City access to their direct data feed. Vendors will work with Sprint to set up accounts. Vendors must submit a New Account Form to Sprint to begin this process.
