Boston's Back Streets
Boston's Back Streets program retains and grows Boston's viable industrial and commercial businesses and their diverse job base through
the strategic use of land, workforce and financial resources. Back Streets supports industrial businesses in four main areas: Real Estate, Workforce, Business Assistance, Resources and Partnerships
Create Boston
The BLDC provides loans of up to $150,000 for businesses in, or relocating to, the City of Boston. Create Boston is an economic development initiative of the Boston Redevelopment Authority (BRA), Boston's planning and economic development agency, and is designed to help businesses rooted in creativity achieve their potential for success. If you are such a business, or you have an idea for one, Create Boston is here to help you realize your vision.
Life Tech
LifeTech Boston is an initiative dedicated to fostering the growth of Boston's life sciences sector. LifeTech Boston assists companies with site location while also adding tangible value in four key areas: financing assistance, permitting & zoning, workforce development and transportation.
Staff is engaged in establishing new sources of financial capital, examining zoning opportunities, pre-permitting particular sites, developing and
funding workforce training programs, and helping to shape transportation planning where it has implications for the LifeTech sector.
Boston's Retail Market
The Boston Retail Market initiative is focused on maintaining and enhancing retail activity in the City of Boston. With Main Streets designations
and other tools, retail helps bring businesses into downtown and to the City's many neighborhood centers. The Boston Retail Market initiative
provides up-to-date information on City of Boston planning projects and important industry related facts about Boston. You may also access data about Boston's market, an overview of Boston's Main Streets programs, and mapping systems.
Emerging Enterprises Program
The Office of Business Development has developed a three-year initiative that is designed to support the development and expansion of small business in Boston's neighborhood commercial districts.
ReStore Boston
ReStore Boston helps neighborhood business and property owners with storefront improvements. The current program is based on the highly successful ReStore initiative on Blue Hill Avenue in Roxbury. This nationally acclaimed revitalization project is now a citywide storefront improvement program
offered through the Office of Business Development. Since its inception, ReStore Boston has provided professional design services to over 160 businesses and completed 80 storefront improvement projects.
Boston's Main Streets
The Boston Main Streets program focuses its effort on providing merchants and community residents with the tools for their historic commercial
districts to compete in today's market. The Main Streets program helps the local districts capitalize on their unique cultural and historical assets
while focusing on the community's economic development needs. Examples include small business recruitment, business retention and addressing
competition from shopping malls and discount retailers.
