| Transitional Employment Services (TES) |
|
Y.O. Unlimited created a developmental, multi-tiered Transitional Employment Services (TES) Program which it has been facilitated for more than 6 years. The model was nationally recognized by the US Department of Labor and the National Transitional Jobs Network.
We use a Learn and Earn Model, offering real work, focused skill development including literacy and numeracy, job readiness training with career counseling, support and placement services.
Multi-Tier, Development Approach
At Y.O.U., young people have many opportunities to gain the experience they need along with the skills the workforce demands.
Level One
- Summer Jobs and Year Round Groups: is a multi-week, stipended pre-employment series which focuses first on the power of good decision-making and the fundamentals of work. This TES experience gives youth a chance to practice being an employee. Our first level job readiness training and professional development track is offered year round and conducted for larger numbers of youth in seasonal employment through our Summer Jobs Initiative.
Level Two
- Bridge Program: of Transitional Employment gives young people a chance to improve on workplace behavior and their academic skills. The Bridge Program takes a small group of youth, partners with agencies/ organizations to help young people develop in a particular skill area, continues to develop youth professionally and adds an academic component. Our young people generally fall far behind their peers in their reading and math skills so skill development in these areas is infused into our TES model.
Level Three
- Individual Placement: offers employment placement and career counseling support once young people have acquired the fundamentals, but services for placement are not only focused on employment. For young people to truly be successful and get on the path to self-sufficiency, they must continue to get education support. Y.O. Unlimited offers tutoring, individualized computer-based instruction and placement in alternative education programs that grant either a GED or a high school diploma.
- Education at Y.O. Unlimited: We offer GED classes and a high school diploma-focused curriculum at the Y.O. Unlimited Center. GED Plus is an on-site program housed at Y.O. Unlimited and the Community Transition School, a Boston Public Schools-Department of Youth Services collaboration, offering education services to young people re-entering the community from long-term detention/ treatment is also housed at Y.O. Unlimited.
