| Mission Statement and Program Description |
- Mission:
WriteBoston is a citywide initiative that seeks to align schools,
families and communities to dramatically improve writing competency among
Boston high school students.
- Target Population: WriteBoston works with high school students in Boston Public Schools.
- Description:
WriteBoston's program consists of three core components:
1. School Writing Initiative. A program piloted in three high schools and their surrounding communities, this initiative
includes an intensive set of interventions designed to greatly increase the number of teenagers able to write proficiently.
2. Out-of-School Writing Initiative. Through this component, WriteBoston collaborates with the BPS and existing after-school
organizations to develop high-quality after-school writing programs that are effectively aligned with in-school literacy instruction.
3. Creating a Community of Writers. This component seeks to increase parents'
and other community members' understanding of the importance of writing and its
link to academic and career success. Through this component, WriteBoston
heightens the awareness and importance of writing as both a means for personal
expression and for academic and professional success.
