WriteBoston is a citywide initiative that mobilizes schools, families and community agencies
to improve writing proficiency among Boston high school students. Writing is critical
to academic success and has proven to be the gateway skill for student success on the MCAS.
Writing is also the skill that employers most frequently cite as key to job effectiveness.
Initiated by Mayor Menino, WriteBoston is a public/private partnership. Key partners include the
Office of Jobs and Community Services, the Boston Public Schools, the Boston Globe, the Boston Plan
for Excellence, the Boston Private Industry Council, the Boston Teacher's Union, PEN New England and the Institute for Responsive Education.
