How to submit

Welcome!

T.i.P.—Boston Teens in Print—is a new newspaper by and for teens in Boston’s public high schools. Maybe you pick up the Metro on the T each day or scan the Globe or Herald at your school. Or maybe you catch a headline here and there from TV, radio or your email provider. But as a teen in Boston, chances are good you don’t see much that affects you or relates to you in these news sources. T.i.P. is all about filling that gap! Boston teens have a lot to say about what’s going on in their world; now there is a place to express it and an audience to appreciate it!

The teen newspaper, Boston T.i.P., Boston Teens in Print, is now online at www.bostontip.com

Where did T.i.P. come from?

WriteBoston and The Boston Globe Foundation—two organizations focused on celebrating the written word—came together in the summer of 2003 to create a new form of print media for Boston teens. Knowing the energy, activism, intelligence and talent of Boston teens, they wanted to create a special forum that would bring the varied voices of the city’s high school students together. A new publication became the obvious choice. After surveys and focus groups confirmed student interest in this venture, a group of teens emerged as the founders of T.i.P. This group got together weekly to eat cookies, share ideas and write. They produced the first edition of T.i.P.

With continued help from The Boston Globe Foundation, The Boston Globe and WriteBoston, T.i.P. teens (that could be you—see below) will produce this free publication four times a year. The Boston Globe will deliver it to every public high school in the district.

An Invitation to Writers, Artists, and Photographers

Do you:

  • Carry around a poetry journal?
  • Shoot photos of Boston for a photography class or after school program?
  • Slave over an essay for English that might enjoy a wider audience than your teacher?
  • Draw your own comic strip?
  • Cover stories in your school paper that have relevance for all BPS students?

Any teen attending a public high school in Boston can submit writing, art and photography directly to T.i.P. We want your poetry, pictures, lyrics, stories, sketches, cartoons, commentaries, articles and letters.
