Boston Zoning Commission Approves Green Building Amendments Following its January 10, 2007 Public Hearing, the Boston Zoning Commission approved several amendments to the Boston Zoning Code to require all projects over 50,000 SF to be designed and planned to meet the “certified” level using the US Green Building Council’s tm, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design tm building rating systems. Mayor Menino, BRA Award Second Round of Green Building Feasibility Studies Grants Mayor Thomas M. Menino, BRA Director Mark Maloney and Environment and Energy Department Chief Jim Hunt announced the second and final round of Green Building Feasibility Study Grants recipients. The three recipients of the $20,000 grants are Mattapan Community Development Corporation – Neponset Fields Housing development project, Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology - historic renovation, and North Star Management – 27 Drydock Ave building renovation. GBTF Report Issued. Click here to view the Executive Summary. Mayor Thomas M. Menino today announced the release of his Green Building Task Force Report. Joined at Fenway Park by Boston Redevelopment Authority Director Mark Maloney, Boston Red Sox architect Janet Marie Smith, and members of the Mayor's Green Building Task Force, including chairperson Joy Conway, the Mayor announced that the City of Boston establish the LEED Silver rating standard as the goal for all City-owned building projects. The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System is a national green building standard developed by the U.S. Green Building Council. Also, the City will amend Article 80 of the Boston Zoning Code to require that all large projects built in Boston are LEED certifiable and that all City-supported building development projects are LEED certifiable.

Mayor Menino Awards “Green Building Grants” First Round Dollars to Fund Green Building Feasibility Studies Third Sector New England (TSNE) and the Dorchester Bay Economic Development Corporation each awarded approximately $20,000 to integrate green building strategies, technologies and products into their projects.
