Boston Artist Survey Report
In 2002, the BRA has commissioned a study to assess what kind of space artists need for their work and what they can afford to pay. Artspace
Projects Inc., a non-profit group with expertise in developing space for artists, designed the survey tool. We are delighted to report that nearly
20% of the 10,000 artists surveyed responded. For a PDF version of the survey report, click
here.
Raw data collected from this survey is also available for further analysis. This data is available
to the public. Please click here to
register if you would like to access this data. We will process your request and then follow-up
with information about how to access to this data.
We have created a database of artists and others interested in this initiative. At this time, over
3,000 artists receive periodic updates on available units, first time homeowner workshops and other
issues related to the Artist Space Initiative. You can sign up for the BRA’s Artist Database at:

If you do not
have access to the Internet, call Heidi Burbidge at (617)918-4306 and she will add your name. For
those artists with email, updates go out electronically. For artists who do not have email, we use
U.S. Mail when possible.
Artists seeking space should also visit the website www.artistlink.org. artspacefinder is a tool that may provide you with
additional opportunities. The BRA is a partner with Leveraging Investments in Creativity (LINC), the Massachusetts Cultural
Council (MCC), the Boston Foundation, New England Foundation for the Arts, the LEF Foundation, Local Initiative Support
Corporation (LISC), the Mayor's Office of Arts, Tourism and Special Events and the Fort Point Arts Community INC. to offer this service.
