The BRA supports the development of artist live/work and work-only space in multiple buildings in Boston neighborhoods. Some of these units are
rentals, some are limited equity condominiums, and others are limited equity cooperatives. A variety of strategies are required to encourage the
development of affordable-at various income levels-and permanent artist units.

Since the Artist Space Initiative was started, 178 Boston artists have found permanent live/work space, and others have been
directed to work-only space, depending on their needs. More projects are in the development pipeline.

Temporary Artist Performance Space
This Initiative works on all kinds of artist space. Sometimes it is possible, on an infrequent basis, for our
staff to assist artist groups who seek space for alternative temporary performances and installations.
If you are planning such work and would like to explore possibilities contact Heidi Burbidge at (617) 918-4306 or by email at
Heidi.Burbidge.BRA@cityofboston.gov.
Artblock includes artist live/work studios, the Bates Artist Center's work-only studios, as well as gallery performance space which
is home to Mobius Artist Group.
