How TGH Has Changed the Life of the Santos Family
Tatiana
Since I left the Technology Goes Home program, I have been doing things for school on my new computer, research and things like that. I look up a lot of stuff on my new computer like Nickolodeon, Disney, Bonne Bell, BET, Diva Starz, and other things. I email my cousins. I also look up lyrics to songs that I like. I still practice my singing but now I've been thinking about acting. I auditioned at the Boston Children's Theatre for a part in the play, "Annie." My mother and I look up different websites together. We even looked up the Juilliard Performing Arts School. She says if I keep practicing, I can go there when I get older.

When my daughter first told me about Technology Goes Home I knew it was very important to her to be part of this program. Tatiana and I have always been close, but TGH helped to cement our connection during these critical pre-teen years. During class I watched her take in information, process it in her mind, and light up whenever she learned something new. I reveled in the comraderie with the other mothers in the program who never hesitated to help others who were struggling with an exercise or give a knowing smile and a warm greeting after a long day at work. I admired Nyvia, the Lower Roxbury TGH instructor's ability to be vibrant and witty so late in the day. I used to think that I had no time after work to do anything but get dinner on the table, spend time with my children, bathe them and get them ready for bed. TGH not only broke the monotony, it opened windows of opportunity and taught me the importance of networking. It was Nyvia who called me one morning when she heard about the job opening.
As a graduate of the Technology Goes Home program, I have a renewed sense of direction in life. Soon after receiving my computer, I began composing songs again. This is something I tried when I was younger but had totally abandoned after I had children. I am finally listening to the calling I've heard throughout my life and I am now actively pursuing my childhood dream of becoming a songwriter/music producer. I hope to one day start an independent recording label.
