Redevelopment of Long Wharf serves an important role in the Crossroads Initiative’s goal to reknit Boston to the Harbor. The planning and design involved in this renovation represent concrete efforts to reorient the city to the sea, again an important source of interest and activity.

An enlivened Long Wharf will bring the activity of the city to the harbor, and the beauty and history of the harbor into the city. The vista will include an indoor-outdoor cafe in the new vent building, entertainment and events on the plaza, and an art feature to mark the gateway to the Harbor, thus re-establishing State Street’s -- Boston’s traditional thoroughfare to the sea -- historic connection to the Harbor.
