As part of Crossroad’s research on existing conditions, the study catalogued known information about below grade conditions (i.e., utilities, street vaults, storm water inlets, and MBTA or CA/T tunnels). This technical and detailed background information is necessary for planning changes to sidewalks or roadways, such as in determining locations for street trees, other landscaped plantings, street furniture, and medians. In the case of Oliver/Northern, two major infrastructure changes are planned: the rehabilitation of the Northern Avenue Bridge, and the planned realignment of Northern Avenue at the eastern edge. Both projects will entail significant relocation of utilities and drainage.
