The Streets / Causeway Street
The urban design component of the feasibility study examined each Crossroad from the broadest scale - that of each street’s context within the city - to the smallest scale -- that of the pedestrian walking along it.
This sketch examines Causeway Street at the broad neighborhood scale, highlighting the difference in urban fabric between its northern and southern sides.
Historically the water’s edge, Causeway Street’s northern side is home to major infrastructure - North Station, the Zakim Bunker Hill Bridge, the North Washington Street Bridge, and the Charles River Dam - that continues to form a major gateway into Boston. These connections are shown in green.
On the southern side are many smaller, red arrows, which mark the finer grain land slide, where many paths lead into the city. At either end are nodes marked in yellow Keany Square and Lowell Square, where the Bulfinch Triangle meets the North End and West End.
