Using the 21st Century Street principles as a guide, the Crossroads team develops a palette of approved solutions and materials that meet city performance criteria and appeal to the public. The process represents a high degree of coordination and cooperation between city agencies and designers, and results in a set of design solutions that will:

• Ensure that quality and effectiveness define the materials and solutions to be used along the Crossroads

• Provide a sense of commonality for the entire system of Crossroads, while allowing the designers to employ elements appropriate to the unique characteristics of each street

OUTCOME:

1) Palette of materials and solutions agreed to by each city department to establish a new standard for the public realm Boston

2) Install a "showroom" or materials lab for the public and the design community where people can learn about the Crossroads Initiative and comment on the proposed palette
