Review and inventory of existing infrastructure along the Crossroads is a critical task. Existing tunnels, utilities, and historic pavings create both opportunities and constraints for Crossroads Initiative redevelopment. Though limited subsurface conditions data exists outside of the area impacted by the Central Artery Tunnel, initial analysis on each street has provided essential information as the planning and design process proceeds. On Beach Street, for example, renovation must take to account areaways on the south side of Washington to Harrison block, and major telecom corridor crossing underneath Beach Street at Harrison.
