About / Returning to the Harbor
The Crossroads Initiative is making Boston, already the country’s most walkable city, even more pleasant for pedestrians. Each Crossroad leads to the Charles River, Boston Harbor, or Fort Point Channel, strengthening connections between the waterfronts, the Greenway, and city neighborhoods. These streets share the life and energy of the city with the harbor and Greenway parks, which in turn provide more vitality and animation to the city. The places where the Crossroads and Greenway come together become important meeting places and points of orientation, and prime locations for interpretive elements that connect the city to its history.
In a sense, the Crossroads extend beyond the waterfront. By enhancing views to the harbor and establishing better links to water-borne transportation, these streets connect the city to the Harbor Islands and the sea itself.
