Advisory Council
Advisory Council

The Mayor's Young Bostonian Advisory Council was created to find out about, research and recommend solutions to the problems facing Boston's ONEin3 population. Each member of the Council is on one of four subcommittees, representing the Socio-Cultural Scene, Parents and Young Families, Civic Engagement and Housing. Through the Advisory Council, ONEin3 and Mayor Menino hope to improve the quality-of-life for young people living in the City of Boston.


 
The Current Council...
Amelia Aubourg
Amelia resides in the Fenway, where she has lived all of her life. She is a graduate of Boston Latin and holds a BA in Communication and MS from Regis College in Organizational and Professional Communication. Prior to joining the American Red Cross Massachusetts Bay as the manager of marketing and communications, Amelia worked for Regis College as their Public Relations Project Manager handling both internal and external communications for the college. Amelia enjoys volunteering for charities geared toward education, diversity and the arts. She served as the Vice Chair and PR Chair for Roxbury Weston Programs and now currently serves as a Class of 1999 Agent for the Boston Latin School Association and as a board member for the Bennett Dance Company, a four woman contemporary dance troupe based in Cambridge. She loves spending time in the city with friends, writing, public relations, and traveling. She is excited to bring her energy and knowledge to the Council.

Andrew Collins
Born and raised in South Boston, MA, Andrew is the second of six children and a fourth generation Bostonian. Andrew is a 2001 graduate of Boston Latin School. An avid athlete, Andrew has been engaged in sports on the youth, high school, and college levels. Andrew will graduate in May with a BA in Business Management from Babson College where he is the captain of the baseball team. He also finds time to volunteer for the Jimmy Fund, a family-related memorial event and college alumni fundraising. He has been employed as an Ironworker for Local #7, a warehouse supervisor intern for DaimlerChrysler Corp., and an estimating intern for Shawmut Design and Construction; bringing his multi-level experiences to his projected career in property construction and development. Andrew hopes to bring a practical, progressive and street-wise perspective to the council.

Emily Conroy
Emily is originally from West Roxbury and currently resides in Allston. She is a graduate of Boston Latin School and holds a B.A. in Economics with a minor in History from Boston College. While at BC, Emily interned at the International Rescue Committee and the Somali Youth Program. These experiences heightened her interest in the unique challenges facing individuals and families who are new to the area. Emily currently works in the Patient/Family Relations Department at the Brigham and Women's Hospital.

Aja Crockett
Born and raised in Roxbury Massachusetts, Aja Crockett is a second generation Bostonian and is still proud to call Roxbury home. After graduating from Newton Country Day High School in Newton MA., Aja went on to obtain a BA in Psychology/Education with a minor in politics from Mount Holyoke College in 2003. Since Mount Holyoke, Aja has worked as both a motivational instructor and a middle school teacher. Currently, Aja is pursuing an MA in divinity from Regent University through a distance program. Aja is passionate about her community and city and sees the ONEin3 opportunity as a chance to help Boston and its neighborhoods reach their highest potential. In her spare time, Aja enjoys reading, writing, watching movies and traveling.

Jaqueline Dasilva
Jackie Dasilva is a Cape Verdean native raised in Dorchester MA. She graduated from Madison Park High School in 2001 and attended Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania. She is the recipient of the Blue Cross Blue Shield Leadership Scholarship and the Posse Foundation Leadership Scholarship awarded to young leaders in Boston. She is interested in issues of health care, education and disparity, and has spent time working with many organizations such as, The Growth Clinic, Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission, , Philadelphia Needle Exchange, Mazzoni trans-health Clinic and Blue Cross Blue Shield of MA. In 2005, Jackie graduated from Bryn Mawr College with a BA in Sociology/Public Health. She currently works as a Health Care Policy Analyst for the Commonwealth and serves on the Posse Foundation Board. Jackie is excited about serving her second year as Co-chair of the Civic Engagement Committee. She also would like to remind all of you amazing young people about MA’s health care reform law which requires MA residents to have health insurance. Oh yeah, and world peace.

Erika Eurkus
Erika Eurkus is program director at ACCION USA, where she has previously served as both program officer and senior loan officer. With over 10 years of experience lending in New England, ACCION USA has made over $8 million in loans to more than 1600 clients. As director, she manages the daily operations of the largest microlending program in the area, working to make access to loans a reality for area business owners shut out of the banking sector. Erika helped facilitate the first ever merger of two U.S.-based microlending programs, Working Capital and ACCION USA, in 2001. Erika sits on the advisory board of the Center for Urban Entrepreneurship at the Pioneer Institute in Boston, and was profiled as an emerging leader in Women’s Business Boston in 2004. A New England native, Erika is a graduate of the Middlesex School in Concord, MA and holds a B.A. from Northwestern University.

Morgan First
Morgan First lives in the Kenmore area. She is an entrepreneur and the CEO and President of 1st Publications, Motion Affair Planner (MAP) BOSTON, an adventure guide for locals built into a weekly agenda. Morgan originally moved to Boston for school and graduated from Emerson College in 2005, where she studied Marketing Communications, Publishing, Entrepreneurship and Photography. On the ONEin3 Mayor's Advisory Council, Morgan will focus on Social and Cultural Life. She first became involved with the city through her work with Onein3’s Boston Young Entrepreneurs (BYE) and helping to organize Neighborhood nights throughout the city. Morgan also works with female leadership/entrepreneurship groups such as Ladies Who Launch and Massachusetts Conference for Women and she is the Career Development Chair of the Emerson College GOLD Alumni association. In her free time Morgan loves traveling and has an affinity for outdoor markets.

Daisy Gomez
A native New Yorker, Daisy Gómez came to Boston after completing her undergraduate career in Sociology and Public Relations. At the State University of New York at Geneseo, Daisy held various leadership positions including Director of Public Relations for Student Government Council. Serving as an AmeriCorps VISTA in 2003 for ReadBoston provided many enriching experiences that highlighted the importance of dedicated national service. A 2004 World Series win followed and gave testament to the unique character and qualities that make Boston a great city. Since AmeriCorps, Daisy has continued working in the non-profit sector and currently manages supportive programs for adult cancer patients and families at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. She continues to be interested in community involvement and looks forward to her second year with the Social and Cultural Life Committee of the ONEin3 Council.

Marcus Hughes
Marcus Hughes is a new committee member to Onein3 sitting on the Housing subcommittee. He is currently attending Boston College Law School in Newton, MA. Marcus is also a recent graduate of Middlebury College where he majored in History and minored in Teacher Education. While at Middlebury Marcus took leadership roles in the College Democrats, serving as its president between 2005-06, and Student Government as a class senator and the body's Chief of Staff, where he was able to work alongside the town of Middlebury and the College administration to provide additional economically viable and environmentally friendly public transportation options for the student body. In addition to his law school studies Marcus devotes time serving as a board member for the John William Ward Public Service Fellowship in Boston and as a senior class representative through the Boston Latin School Association. He is a resident of Dorchester.
Imari K. Paris Jeffries
Imari Paris Jeffries has a long professional history of national service and nonprofit leadership as well as a strong commitment to the children we serve. Prior to joining Friends of the Children – Boston, Imari served as the Director of Programs and Partnerships for the Massachusetts Service Alliance. During his six year tenure, he managed the investment and distribution of over $8 million annually to Massachusetts-based non-profits. His service experience began in the US Armed Services during the First Gulf War and continued upon his return as a Teacher and Team Leader at Jumpstart. After two years of teaching in an early childhood setting, Imari joined the staff of the BELL Foundation as their AmeriCorps Program Director. Other past volunteer activities include serving as the Chair of the African American Federation of Greater Boston. Additionally, Imari has spent time as a member of the Development Leadership Network, the Boston Pan African Forum, and was selected as a LEAD Boston Fellow in 2003. Imari has BA in Africana Studies and History, an MA in Education, and an MA in American Studies from the University of Massachusetts.
Goutam Jois
Goutam U. Jois, 25, is cum laude graduate of Harvard Law School. He received his A.B. from Georgetown University in 2003 magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, with honors in Government and minors in Classical Studies and Philosophy. In 2004, he graduated from the Georgetown Public Policy Institute with a Master's Degree in Public Policy. Over the years, he has worked with, among others, Youth in Action, the Georgetown International Relations Association, and the Youth & Government Program. At Harvard, Goutam was a student attorney with the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau, litigating on behalf of indigent clients. He was also an editor of the Harvard Civil Rights-Civil Liberties Law Review and has written about civic engagement, civil rights, and corporate governance. Originally from New Jersey, Goutam now lives in Beacon Hill. He is currently a law clerk to the Honorable Mark L. Wolf, Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts..
Scott Kearnan
Scott was born and raised in the small town of Mendon, MA. He graduated from Boston College in 2004 with a Bachelor Arts in Sociology and Communications. In addition, Scott was the first male in the history of the university to graduate with a minor in Women’s Studies, a distinction that would later prove rife for pillaging on right-wing websites across the internet, forever dissuading Scott from Googling his own name again. Upon graduation, Scott’s work as an Account Coordinator at Michael P. Wasserman, Inc., a Boston event-planning firm, allowed him to work extensively with city organizations and area non-profits. In late 2007, Scott decided to put full-time efforts into his freelance writing work. He contributes regularly to local and national magazines/newspapers, and previous interviews include international recording artists, Grammy award winners, Guinness World Record Holders and Miss America contestants. Scott also offers business writing services for a number of corporate clients, including LCN USA and Anthem Entertainment. He resides in Boston’s South End neighborhood, and enjoys reading, social theory, nightlife culture, and yoga.

Josef Kurtz
Joe Kurtz is an Assistant Professor of Biology at Emmanuel College and a Research Fellow in the Transplantation Biology Research Center at the Massachusetts General Hospital. A resident of Boston for over 14 years (and Charlestown for the last 8), he received his Bachelor’s in Science from MIT and his PhD from Harvard Medical School. The owner of a 4 year old Miniature American Eskimo and long time member of the Boston Triathlon Team, Joe can be counted on to always have the interests of cyclists and dog owners near to his heart.

Caryn Lazaroff
Caryn is a resident of Back Bay and member of the Advisory Council’s housing subcommittee, is a senior account executive in the Cause Branding Group at Cone, Inc., a Boston-based strategy and communications agency which creates signature programs that integrate social issues and causes into clients’ brands.

She joined Cone after spending almost seven years post-college in Manhattan in the nonprofit and finance fields.

At Safe Horizon, the nation’s leading non-profit victim assistance and advocacy organization, Caryn directed board cultivation events, secured cash and in-kind support from vendors, developed employee engagement activities and raised funds for special events. Caryn most enjoyed forging relationships between domestic violence victims and Safe Horizon’s board members and corporate supporters, identifying innovative and inspiring ways for executives to volunteer their time and expertise to help battered women achieve professional and financial independence.

She began her career as an analyst at the private investment banking boutique Peter J. Solomon Company, after earning a Bachelor of Science in Economics from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Caryn enjoys live music and theatre and has passion and talent in the areas of cooking, dance and fitness.

Bill Musto
Bill has lived in Boston since 2002. Prior to that he has bounced around New Jersey, Washington DC, London , and New York. Bill is currently a Vice President at Beacon Capital Partners, a real estate private equity firm that focuses on investing in office buildings. He has also worked in investment banking at Lehman Brothers in New York City. Bill earned a Bachelor of Science degree in economics, magna cum laude, from Georgetown University and a Master of Business Administration from MIT's Sloan School of Management. (He is perhaps the least engineering-savvy person ever to graduate from MIT.) A resident of the North End, Bill is an elected member of the North End / Waterfront Neighborhood Council and is involved with many other North End groups. He enjoys traveling, baseball, cooking (and eating and drinking), and spending time with his family.
Kristyn O'Brien
Kristyn O’Brien grew up in Dorchester, MA. She attended Suffolk University’s International Campus in Madrid, Spain; earned a B.A. in English and Government from Suffolk University; and has plans to pursue a law degree. Kristyn worked as a special event coordinator for Boston 2004, Inc., the host committee for the 2004 Democratic National Convention. Presently, she works in the Government & Community Affairs office at Suffolk University helping to build relationships among the University, the City and Boston’s neighborhoods. She is excited to be part of this year’s advisory council and hopes to positively affect the quality of life for Boston’s young people.
Deanna Palmin
Deanna has lived in Boston since she immigrated to the United States in 1997 from Minsk, Belarus. Before that, she spent two ears in Israel attending a high school as part of a program called “Nahale Shesh Esre”. Deanna graduated from Northeastern University with a Bachelor degree in Computer Science and a minor in Business Administration, as well as 2.5 years of experience in the software industry. After working in the field for a few more years she decided it was time for a change.

Today, Deanna is a Real Estate Consultant affiliated with Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage. She loves every aspect of her challenging and at the same time rewarding career. Deanna resides with her husband at Tremont on The Common, right in the heart of downtown Boston. She loves the city life and, just like many others, is trying to figure out how to build a family in Boston. Deanna, as part of the OneIn3 Boston Mayor's Advisory Council, hopes to find ways to make living in the city of Boston more comfortable and desirable for families and singles alike.

Michael Ratty
Michael, a North End resident, joins the Mayor’s Advisory Council after co-founding and coordinating the North Neighborhood Night event series in October 2006.

Michael is the Director of Communications at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Boston. He is in charge of all day-to-day media relations and internal communications, and acts as the College’s chief spokesperson. Prior to MCPHS, Michael worked at a local news radio station where he coordinated live broadcasts and covered the 2004 Democratic National Convention. A graduate of Ithaca College in upstate New York, he holds a BA in Print Journalism.

Michael is currently an active member of the North End/Waterfront Neighborhood Council, North End/Waterfront Resident Association, Friends of Christopher Columbus Park, United States Tennis Association, and the Boston chapter of the Public Relations Society of America. He also serves as a volunteer for the American Red Cross (disaster public affairs) and TransitWorks, a not for profit organization that seeks to improve the quality of public transportation \ in the Boston metropolitan region. In his free time Michael enjoys sports, film, travel, and photography.

Jessica Reardon
Jessica is Chair of the ONEin3 Young Families sub-committee. Raising her son while living in the South End has given her first-hand experience in the joys and challenges of having kids in the city!
Before taking time off to be a stay-at-home mom, Jessica was the Program Director at The Commonwealth Institute (TCI), a nonprofit organization that supports women CEOs and entrepreneurs to help them grow their businesses. She enjoyed being a part of Boston’s extensive entrepreneurial support network. Prior to TCI, Jessica held account management roles in advertising agencies in Lexington and Greenwich, CT. She volunteers for several organizations, including Big Sister, GLSEN (Gay Lesbian and Straight Education Network), and Roxbury Preparatory Charter School. She graduated magna cum laude from Williams College with degrees in English and American Studies.

Stephanie Richardson
Steph Richardson grew up in MI, attended Denison University for her undergraduate degree, and moved to Boston in 1997 for graduate school at Boston University School of Social Work. Having lived in different neighborhoods of Boston, she now resides in East Boston. Steph has been the Social Worker in the Pediatric Emergency Department at Boston Medical Center for the last 7 years. Steph also gives her time to the Junior League of Boston and is a member of NDMS IMSuRT, an international medical disaster response team. Steph, whose favorite hobbies include running and traveling, serves as Chair of the Social and Cultural Life subcommittee.

Shauna Rigaud
Growing up in the Grove Hall section in Dorchester, Shauna sought out opportunities to be involved in the community around her. From being a part of the Freedom House in the 8th Grade to Co-Chair of the Youth board of Boston Do Something at 13 to teaching about neighborhood history with mytown at 15; she was involved in various community organizations and programs that helped to shape her passion for community organizing and involvement. Shauna is a 1999 alumna of Boston Latin Academy and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. In 2003, she graduated from UMass with a major in African American Studies. Her experiences, both before and while in college, have been so valuable that she developed a passion for working with the community and supporting young people. She is a proud member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Incorporated a non-profit historically Black collegiate sorority whose mission is to enhance the quality of life in the community through public service, leadership development and education. In 2004, Shauna returned to mytown - multicultural youth tour of what’s now -as Youth Director, developing curriculum for the program, training and mentoring the youth they hire.

Reid Sprite
Reid recently moved to Boston’s South End in October of 2005. Although he grew up in Lansing, Michigan, he obtained his bachelor’s degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York in the spring of 2005. During the summer of 2005, while searching for a career, Reid interned for candidate Virg Bernero in the Lansing mayoral election. Shortly thereafter, Reid landed a job in Malden, Massachusetts, as an Operations Engineer at National Grid, the primary electric and gas utility for much of New England. There, he designs, plans, and oversees construction of additions and upgrades to the electric distribution system. Though Reid is a fairly young professional in Boston’s sea of grad-students of the same age, he hopes this will bring a unique point of view to the ONEin3 team.

Cara Sullivan
Hailing from Westford, MA, Cara Sullivan graduated from Westford Academy in 2002. She attended Wheaton College in Norton where she earned her B.A. with a major in economics and minors in management and women studies. While there, she was actively involved in a number of community initiatives, such as planning the annual Relay for Life and participating in local charity road races. During her junior year, she spent a semester studying abroad in Sydney, Australia while also working for the National Manager of the PricewaterhouseCoopers Foundation.

Currently, Cara is the event coordinator for State Street's Community Affairs Department where she helps connect State Street employees to event sponsorship programs run through Community Affairs. In addition, she is the founder and co-chair of State Street's employee network State Street Connect, which aims to promote and to engage State Street employees in volunteer/community events in the Boston and Quincy areas.

Jeff Trigilio
Born and raised in Winthrop, Jeff attended Boston University and later Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. After graduating from LMU, Jeff got his first taste for property development while serving for two years as Operations Manager of Rancho Arroyo Grande, a 4,000 acre vineyard and performance horse facility. Since moving back to Boston five years ago, Jeff has been an independent small business consultant, specializing in financial management, operations, and business development. He is currently serving as Chief Operating Officer of Trizad Properties, LLC, a residential real estate development company based in the South End. Jeff has also previously served as General Manager of Listing Information Network, the primary residential real estate data provider for the Boston Area. Jeff currently lives in Jamaica Plain and loves his quick bike ride to work through the South-West Corridor.

Elizabeth Walczak
Elizabeth Walczak is a native of Dorchester, Massachusetts. An alumna of the Boston Public Schools, she attended Boston Latin School, from which she graduated in 2001. She was awarded a full-tuition leadership scholarship through the Posse Foundation to attend Hamilton College, where she earned a B.A. with a major in English and minor in Government. While at Hamilton, she was active in several student organizations and spent a semester on Hamilton’s New York City Program her junior year, a competitive, semester-long government program with a focus on state and local politics, combining academics and internship experience. While there she worked at ABC News in their Law and Justice Unit, conducting research on court cases, and contributing to material for broadcast. Elizabeth has pursued her interest in politics through volunteer work on campaigns as well as membership in Boston civic groups - she is a member of her Democratic Ward Committee. Elizabeth currently works in Boston program administration at Citizen Schools, a national after-school education initiative – currently in 15 cities – that helps improve student achievement by blending learning projects taught by volunteers with academic enrichment.
