Historical note
Chapter 12 of the Ordinances of 1984 established within the Mayor’s Office a division known as the Office of Consumer Affairs and Licensing. The Office of Consumer Affairs and Licensing contains two divisions. The Licensing Division, at the direction of the Mayor, is responsible for the regulation of Boston’s entertainment industry as set forth by applicable law. It issues licenses for all live entertainment, coin operated amusements, arcades, theaters, dancing, carnivals, concerts and sporting events. The Consumer Affairs Division mediates, educates and advocates on behalf of the City’s consumers.
