Genealogical Information On Boston Residents
Census records
Records of censuses conducted by the city are available in the city archives for the years 1820, 1830, 1837, 1845 (summary only), 1850, and 1855.

Tax records
Records prior to 1822 are available by appointment at the rare books & manuscripts division, Boston Public Library, 666 Boylston St., Boston, Ma 02117, 617-536-5400, ext. 425.

Records from 1822 to 1895 and 1945 to 1973 are available by appointment at the city archives.

Records from 1896 to 1944 are available by appointment at the research library division, Boston Public Library, 666 Boylston St., Boston, Ma 02117, 617-536-5400, ext. 238.

Records from 1974 on are available at the city's Assessing Information Center, room 301, City Hall, Boston, Ma 02201, 617-635-4287.

Voter registration records
The city archives has lists for 1857-1920. for later years contact the Election Department, Room 241, City Hall, Boston, Ma 02201, 617-635-4634.
