The Guide to the Records in the City of Boston Archives was created by the staff of the City Archives with grant funding from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC). The guide is organized by department record groups. It provides historical information about each department and brief descriptions of their record series. Links are provided to available finding aids throughout the Guide. The Guide will be continuously updated as new finding aids are completed and new accessions come into the City Archives.
The Finding Aids page provides links to guides for specific record series and collections held by the City Archives. The finding aids are arranged by department record group and provide historical background information, descriptions of the scope and content and container lists for each record series or collection. The finding aids listed on the Online Collections page include links to records that have been scanned and can be viewed on the Flickr page of the City of Boston Archives.
