Visiting the City Laboratory

Visiting the City Archaeology Lab is a great opportunity to see firsthand how archaeology is done and get a closer view some of our collections. Due to the fact that the lab is a very active scientific research facility, visits are by appointment only.

Arrangements must be made in advance of arrival as the lab is occasionally closed. The Lab’s museum space has regularly-changing exhibits featuring highlights of the City’s archaeological heritage.

Visits are an excellent opportunity for those interested in archaeology to see a real archaeology laboratory in action, visit the in-house museum, and is great for kids and adults who would like more information on archaeology or are interested in viewing the facilities prior to volunteering. Access to collections is at the discretion of the City Archaeologist.

School Groups and Group Visits

The City Archaeologist welcomes and encourages school groups to visit the lab. We will give your school group or group of visitors a brief presentation in our dedicated teaching room before moving on to a tour of the Laboratory and Curation Facility. This is a hands-on learning experience and we are actively developing programs for various age groups.
