The City of Boston's Community Climate Action and Air Quality Grants (previously called Transportation and Air Quality Grants), administered by the Air Pollution Control Commission, provide funding to neighborhood, business, academic, and other groups for projects related to reducing air pollution emissions .
The first round of funding has been completed. The APCC is now accepting proposals on a rolling basis. See the Request for Proposals for details.
The FY 2009 program is focused on community projects designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Greenhouse gases-including carbon dioxide and methane-increase the retention of heat in the atmosphere. The effects of climate change in Boston will likely include greater flooding, more intense storms, and more frequent and intense heat waves. In 2007, the U.S. Supreme Court confirmed that carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases are air pollutants under the terms of the federal Clean Air Act. The largest source of greenhouse gases is the burning of fossil fuels in on-road and off-road vehicles, power plants, and boilers and furnaces.
