    Computerworld Honors Laureate Winner, 2013: Citizens Connect and Computing Centers Grant

    The City of Boston has been recognized by IDG’s Computerworld Honors program 2013 Laureate for two outstanding and innovative programs. Boston Public Computing Centers/ Boston Sustainable Broadband Adoption have been recognized as winners in the Economic Development category, and the Citizens Connect mobile app has been recognized as a winner in the Innovation category.

    Project Management Conference

    CIO Bill Oates was a speaker at the first Northeast Public Sector Project Management Conference held March 20th. The daylong event included presentations, panel discussions, and breakout sessions on Project Management topics, resources, challenges, and success stories. The meeting was presented by the Public Technology Institute (PTI) in collaboration with the City of Boston Project Management Office (PMO), and over 130 City employees from 26 departments attended.

    The City of Boston's Citizens Connect application has been recognized as a CIO 100 award honoree.  One hundred organizations are honored each year for using information technology in innovative ways to deliver business value. The project was recognized for not only its successful execution, but for pioneering a new, purposeful technology with a demonstrated business value beyond IT benefits.

    Citizens Connect Live is an online chat platform which allows constituents to chat online with operators staffed by the Mayor's Office of Constituent Service. Currently available during normal business hours, Citizens Connect Live operators are available to answer questions about city services or direct users to online services or web resources.

  • Tech Goes Home Graduation 2012 (200)

    Tech Goes Home Graduation

    Tech Goes Home celebrated its 13th graduation on Saturday, June 23rd at Faneuil Hall.  During the 2011-2012 school year, over 4,000 Boston residents received digital literacy training, were given a new laptop, and provided with assistance to get low cost Internet service.  Mayor Thomas M. Menino, speaking to the large crowd of families, emphasized the power of parental engagement to increase student achievement.  Awards were given to several graduates and trainers who have displayed exemplary effort.
