Real Estate Disposition Initiative (REDI)
Building Sales
Customer Service 635-0197
Manager: Carl L. Hyman

Through REDI, the Department of Neighborhood Development (DND) sells surplus, tax-foreclosed, City-owned real estate to private buyers who agree to invest in the rehabilitation of the property. Land and buildings are made available for residential, commercial, and institutional uses, at or below market value, through a Request for Proposal. All sales under this initiative will comply with the requirements and statutes applicable to the sale of real property including, but not limited to, MGL C.30B and ST. 1966, C.642.

Request for Proposal

  • Request For Proposals include a list of selection criteria, which vary by proposal. These criteria are what DND uses to choose the most optimal proposal submitted.
  • The real estate is sold "AS IS".

 Guidelines (Please read carefully!)

  • Incomplete applications will not be considered.
  • Project feasibility: the proposed use of the property must comply with all building and zoning codes.
  • Applicant cannot be delinquent in the payment of taxes or water and sewer charges on any property in the City of Boston, or must be current in a repayment agreement with the City of Boston Collector-Treasurer's Office.
  • Applicant must also state if they have ever held property on which the City of Boston foreclosed, and the circumstances leading to the previous foreclosure(s).

Requesting an application:

  • Request for Proposals are advertised in the legal section of the Boston Globe on Mondays.
  • When the property is advertised, applications are available at the DND Bid Counter. To view a list of currently advertised properties, click here.
