Listed and defined below are the terms used to describe BRA owned real estate. Convey - 1) to transfer property form one to another, by means of a written instrument and other formalities 2) to deed or transfer title to another Designate - to indicate and set apart for a specific purpose Sliver Parcel - a small portion of unbuildable land Board Dates - The BRA's Board of Directors generally meets every three weeks and serves as the agency’s final decision making authority Conveyance Date - the date on which the deed or title is transferred to another Industrial Park - an area designed and zoned for manufacturing and associated activities Zoning - a legal mechanism for the city to regulate the use of privately owned real property. All privately owned land within the jurisdiction is placed within designated zones that limit the type and intensity of development permitted Restriction - a limitation placed upon the use of property, contained in the deed or other written instruments in the chain of title or in local ordinances pertaining to land use Urban Renewal Area - During the 1960's, the BRA was tasked with implementing the Federal Urban Renewal Program. This program was to revitalize inner city areas that had become blighted following the suburban growth of the metro region. Some of the methods that the BRA was empowered with were acquisition, demolition, relocation and dispersal. Therefore, an Urban Renewal Area was defined by the federal government as a blighted area in which the BRA was given special powers to mold the neighborhood into a thriving part of the city of Boston.
