Boston has almost 9,000 triple deckers, housing that first began appearing in Boston’s neighborhoods in the 1890’s but still provide livable, affordable homes for Bostonians in the 2010’s.  If you’re already an owner of a triple-decker or a condominium unit within one, we want to help you celebrate the versatility and longevity of these fantastic properties. If you’re looking to buy and restore a triple decker, we can help you with that, too. 

The 3D Program offers a wide range of benefits and services to help owners of Triple Deckers make the most of their properties. There are also services to help you buy a Triple Decker of your own. From discounts at hardware stores, to workshops on how to find a good contactor, to zero-percent loans for home improvements and energy conservation, to downpayment assistance for first-time homebuyers, to a house painting contest celebrating the best in 3D homeownership, the 3D Program represents an unprecedented commitment by the City of Boston to recognize and renew this iconic housing form.

3D Membership As a 3D Member, you will receive a membership card that entitles you to discounts and a number of hardware stories across the city. Members will also receive updates about new services that become available as the 3D Program grows.

3D Assistance Learn about the financial assistance available to triple deckers owners who want to improve their buildings. $30,000 and more is available in interest-free financing for eligible owner-occupants. Find out how first time homebuyers may be eligible for up to $20,000 toward their downpayment on a triple decker.
