The Parks & Recreation Department provides residents and visitors with clean, green, safe, and accessible open space in more than 2,200 acres of park land throughout the city.
The Boston Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to announce the release of its Sustainable Design Guidelines. In addition, the Department announced that the William J. Devine Golf Course at Franklin Park has received certification in Environmental Planning from the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses.
On January 18, 2012 the Army Corps of Engineers advertised for a contractor to complete Phase I of the Muddy River Project. The Muddy River Project is a unique effort by federal, state, and local governments to improve flood control by restoring an historic urban waterway.
Asian Longhorn Beetles (ALB) were discovered in 6 trees at the Faulkner Hospital in Jamaica Plain last July. These trees were removed and chipped. Since July 2010 over 30,000 tree surveys have been done, and no new beetles were found.
