City of Boston Licensing Board
The Board grants and regulates various types of alcohol and food licenses for restaurants, nightclubs, private clubs, package stores, hotels, and inns. The Board also issues and regulates licenses for a common victuallers (food only), hotels (both with alcohol and without alcohol), bowling alleys, pool tables, lodging houses, dormitories (fraternities which are a category of dormitory licenses) and fortune tellers. To obtain the necessary applications for the licenses listed above, please contact the Licensing Board by phone, e-mail or by visiting the office in person.
The State Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission has made all the necessary forms and applications available online through their website. The City's Licensing Board has also updated the forms and applications necessary to secure licenses. Applicants will now submit a combination of ABCC and Licensing Board forms to apply for alcohol-related licenses.
For New Licenses:
In addition to the ABCC online forms, the Licensing Board requires the following be submitted in duplicate:
New License Application
- Affidavit of Notice to Abutters Form
- Corporate Vote Form
- Criminal Record Information Form
- Financial Disclosure Form
- must attach Articles of Incorporation (from Secretary of State's Office)
For Existing Licenses:
In addition to ABCC online forms, the Licensing Board requires the following be submitted in duplicate:

- Certificate of Change of Directors or Officers (certified by the Secretary of State's Office)
