Inspectional Services Departments
The Inspectional Services Department (ISD) is comprised of five regulatory divisions whose aim is to protect and improve the quality of life for all Boston residents by effectively administering and enforcing building, housing, health, sanitation and safety regulations mandated by City and State governments.

Please be advised that on July 19, 2010, the primary application fee for Building Permits will be increased for the following applications:
  • $50 Alteration, Erect and Certificate of Occupancy (4 family or more)
  • $20 Amendment, Short Form, Electrical, Plumbing, Gas, Electrical Low Voltage, Fire Alarm, Sprinker
  • $20 Change of Occupancy: 1-3 Family

Please note that the additional fee based on the fair cost of construction, $10 per $1000 has not changed.

Also, a new permit to excavate a trench will be $60 and the annual fee for a Site Cleanliness license will now be $50.00

The Boston City Council approved these fees on June 16, 2010
